Is the Queen’s homeopath, Dr Peter Fisher, erring or lying?

In the current issue of the Faculty of Homeopathy‘s Simile publication, Dr Peter Fisher, the Queen’s homeopath, re-visits the old story of the ‘Smallwood Report’. To my big surprise, I found the following two paragraphs in his editorial:

A prepublication draft [of the Smallwood report] was circulated for comment with prominent warnings that it was confidential […]

The Queen’s homeopath seems to sense that homeopathy is on its last leg

Dr Peter Fisher (I have mentioned him several times before, see for instance here, here and here) claimed in his recent editorial ( Fisher P, Homeopathy and intellectual honesty, Homeopathy (2017) – not yet available on Medline) that 43 systematic reviews of homeopathy have so far been published, and stated that “of these 21 were […]

It would be wrong to get used to the untruths told by proponents of alternative medicine or anybody else

‘Alternative truth’ is a term that I used first in 2013 . Since then I had to employ it with increasing frequency. Disturbingly, since then similar terms, such as ‘alternative facts’, ‘alternative science’ etc., have become ‘en vogue’. In an NEJM-editorial on the subject, Alta Caro from the University of Wisconsin Law School, Madison, US recently concluded: […]

Exposing lies in the realm of quackery

To a significant extent, this blog has always exposed untruths in the realm of alternative medicine – not just one or two, but hundreds. Obviously, some of them are more clear-cut than others. If, for instance, someone claims that acupuncture has been proven to be effective for a given condition, this many seem like a […]

Peter Fisher, the Queen’s homeopath, deserves a place in ‘THE ALT MED HALL OF FAME’ | Edzard Ernst

Yes, I think he does deserve to join this fast-expanding club which, so far, consists of the following people:
Simon Mills
Gustav Dobos
Claudia Witt
George Lewith
John Licciardone

They have been admitted mostly because they have demonstrated that they exclusively or mostly publish positive results about alternative medicine. Therefore, their ‘TRUSTWORTHYNESS INDEX’ is remarkable.

With Peter […]

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT POSSIBLE? I agree with the Queen’s homeopath! | Edzard Ernst

I do not seem to agree on much these days with doctor Perter Fisher, the Queen’s homeopath (see for instance here, here and here), but I might share his view on vaccinations. This became clear to me through reading a recent comment made by a homeopath, and not just any old homeopath. The author is Rudi Verspoor, the Dean and […]

Homeopathy: opinions of two outstanding experts | Edzard Ernst

The Nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan recently called homeopathy ‘bogus’. “They (homeopaths) take arsenic compounds and dilute it to such an extent that just a molecule is left. It will not make any effect on you. Your tap water has more arsenic. No one in chemistry believes in homeopathy. It works because of placebo effect,” he was quoted […]

Six prominent proponents of homeopathy and 12 remarkable qualities | Edzard Ernst

Recently I have focussed several posts on well-known homeopaths and proponents of homeopathy; they include 6 prominent defenders of this therapy:
  • Dr Peter Fisher, the Queen’s homeopath,
  • Dr Michael Dixon, GP, chair of the NHS Alliance, the College of Medicine and holder of many other posts,
  • Prof Michael Frass, intensive care physician at the University […]

Is the Queen’s homeopath telling the truth? | Edzard Ernst

Not long ago, Peter Fisher fired me from the editorial board of ‘his’ journal ‘HOMEOPATHY’. I thought that this was a surprisingly daft move, particularly as we used to have respect for each other and even published together as co-authors (for instance here). But perhaps I should not have been surprised because, already in 2007, he published an important, potentially libellous falsehood about me.

In this article which he published as Dr. Peter Fisher, Homeopath to Her Majesty, the Queen, he wrote […]

Debating with the Queen’s homeopath | Edzard Ernst

The last time I had contact with Dr Fisher was when he fired me from the editorial board of his journal ‘Homeopathy’. He did that by sending me the following letter:
Dear Professor Ernst, This is to inform you that you have been removed from the Editorial Board of Homeopathy.  The reason for this is […]
